How to Start Getting Great Sleep

The overwhelming majority of our patients are referred to us either by their sleep doctor or primary care physician. With that being said, if you’re unhappy with your sleep, you can go ahead and schedule an appointment at any of our Northern Arizona sleep dental offices directly! No matter which camp you fall into, this page should answer some of your basic questions and let you know what to expect at your initial appointment so you can feel at ease from your first visit.

Wondering if You Have Sleep Apnea? Take Our Quiz

Don’t know where to start when it comes to your sleep troubles? Our sleep quiz can give you (and us) great insight into whether you might need professional treatment. It takes less than a minute to complete and should illuminate your situation.

Your First Visit

Once you are referred to our office or schedule an appointment, we’ll gather your insurance information so we can confirm your benefits and give you an estimate of your out-of-pocket cost for an oral appliance upfront. Initial consultations are always free.

During your appointment, Dr. Held and our Clinical Director, David, will discuss your symptoms, review your medical history, and go over your sleep study (if you haven’t undergone one, we can organize this for you). The primary goal is to help you understand exactly why you’re sitting in our office. What is hampering your sleep? How severe is it? What can we do to help, and what are steps you can take on your own?

Most patients haven’t had their condition explained in extensive detail until they come to see us—we believe that the more you know, the better you’ll be able to decide what’s right for you when it comes to treatment. From there, we can take the initial steps to design your sleep appliance which will involve creating a digital impression of your mouth.

Health Insurance

Sleep Better Southwest is able to file with many major medical insurance providers, including BlueCross BlueShield and Tricare as well as Medicare, for sleep apnea and snoring treatments. Our team will work with you and your insurance to help you understand your benefits and minimize your out-of-pocket costs.

It should be noted that even though oral appliance treatment is provided by a dentist, you cannot use dental insurance to help pay for it. This is because the appliance is being used to resolve a medical issue, not a dental one.

Financial Policy

Sleep Better Southwest requires payment in full for any amounts that are the patient’s responsibility at the time services are rendered, which may include co-pays, co-insurance, and/or deductible amounts.

Failure to provide current insurance information before services are rendered may result in denial of the claim. We assist our patients in receiving reimbursement from their insurance company; however, please understand that the patient has the final responsibility for their bill.
